Heartland Payment Systems (one of the largest payment processors in U.S.) has paid over $110 million in fines and $26 million in legal costs due to a security breach where hackers stole data from over 130 million credit and debit cards. Heartland was, at the time of the breach, PCI compliant. This goes to show that companies can't rest on the fact that they are PCI compliant.
